The ND programme is for individual seeking a career in the security industry, either in the private or public sector. The programme offers a world of opportunities for candidate to acquire technical competence as a loss prevention officer, thereby opening tremendous avenue for gainful employment in a wide range of industry.

Diploma programme in Security Management gives students the information they need to prevent incidents and maintain security. A graduate of National Diploma (ND) programme in security management often results in a student acquiring management and technical skills, which could give students the opportunity to manage security units and lead other security employees. Students in these programmes learn to create, implement and maintain security systems.

Some professionals that could benefit from such ND programme include:

  • Information security officer
  • Computer security specialist
  • IT security analyst
  • Security guards
  • Police officers
  • Public safety officers

With a graduate certificate and adequate work experience in the security field, individuals may be qualified to become security managers or supervisors of other protective service workers. Graduates from ND programmes in Security Management are prepared for a number of job roles, including security officers and information systems managers.

oal: The programme is intended to produce enterprising, well trained and highly skilled security personnel in the private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Objectives: On successful completion of the programme, recipients should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an acceptable level of understanding of the security industry, qualities, ethical behaviours and responsibilities of the security officer.
  2. Competently carry out patrol, access control, search and investigations.
  3. Intelligently apply reasonable knowledge of the Nigerian Laws regarding equality, diversity and privacy, etc, in the day-to-day discharge of security duties.
  4. Skillfully operate electronic security devices and systems.
  5. Ensure safety and security of lives and properties.
  6. Respond adequately to emergency situations and calls.
  7. Apply social skills and relate well with the public.
  8. Develop, nurture and apply entrepreneurship skill in security industry.
  9. Communicate, write and process security reports in the most effective manner.
  10. Demonstrate respect for equality and socio-cultural diversity of individual members of the society.
  11. Promote health and safety in the society.
  12. Continually promote a culture of physical fitness and mental well-being.
  13. Build the capacity for self-defence/unarmed combat.
  14. Resolve and manage conflict.
  15. Specialize in a field of Security operation.

Entry Requirement

The Entry Requirement into National Diploma (ND) in Security Management and Technology programme include any of the following:

  1. Candidates who have successfully completed Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent with credit passes in five subjects to include Mathematics and English Language.
  2. Unemployed and/or under employed graduates of tertiary institutions seeking employable skills in the security industry.
  3. National Vocational Certificate (NVC Final) in Security Operations from an approved Vocational Enterprise Institution (VEI)
  4. Employed men and women and who desire relevant or additional skills in security, but possess relevant qualification as stated (1) above.
  5. Those out of school or work for a considerable length of time who desire and deserve open access to re-skilling
